I am so excited to announce that Funny Girl, edited by Betsy Bird, is OUT NOW! Carmen is one of 25 female writers for children who contributed stories to the anthology. The book has already received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus, who said Carmen’s story about her mother setting the bathtub on fire is “One of the standouts…” along with stories from other amazing authors like Libba Bray and Cece Bell.
As one fourth grader said after hearing Carmen tell,”Ms. Deedy made us laugh so hard, Casey’s retainer fell out!” And don’t we all want to laugh like that?
Contributing authors are: Cece Bell, Sophie Blackall, Libba Bray, Lisa Brown, Adrianne Chalepah, Alison DeCamp, Carmen Agra Deedy, Kelly DiPucchio, Lisa Graff, Shannon Hale, Charise Meriele Harper, Jenni Holm, Akilah Hughes, Amy Ignatow, Christine Mari Inzer, Meghan McCarthy, Mitali Perkins, Leila Sales, Raina Telgemeier, Deborah Underwood, Ursula Vernon, Rita Williams-Garcia, Delaney Yeager

“Award winning author Carmen Agra Deedy pays tribute to that most glorious artifact, the codex. An impenitent book lover, Deedy presents a spirited defense of book madness, a predilection she terms, “the marvelous affliction.” Join the Smithsonian Libraries as we celebrate the Art of the Book with one of America’s foremost storytellers.”
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of helping kick off the Get Georgia Reading campaign. It is a wonderful project whose goal is to get all Georgia children proficient in reading by the 3rd grade, as well as to help them learn to love books and stories.
So often this comes down to finding the right book for you! As some of you may know, for Carmen, that book was Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. What book made you fall in love with reading?
All we can say is WOW! What an amazing festival with such wonderful people. Thank you for everyone that came out to get books signed and celebrate reading!
A peek at the shenanigans that happened over dinner.
