Later this week we will be updating our website with news about Carmen’s newest book, The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet, as well as information about upcoming public performances and book signings.
We would love to hear from all of you to share kid letters and pictures from recent school visits, so please send them in to us if you want to be featured on the website!
I am so excited to announce that Funny Girl, edited by Betsy Bird, is OUT NOW! Carmen is one of 25 female writers for children who contributed stories to the anthology. The book has already received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and Kirkus, who said Carmen’s story about her mother setting the bathtub on fire is “One of the standouts…” along with stories from other amazing authors like Libba Bray and Cece Bell.
As one fourth grader said after hearing Carmen tell,”Ms. Deedy made us laugh so hard, Casey’s retainer fell out!” And don’t we all want to laugh like that?
Contributing authors are: Cece Bell, Sophie Blackall, Libba Bray, Lisa Brown, Adrianne Chalepah, Alison DeCamp, Carmen Agra Deedy, Kelly DiPucchio, Lisa Graff, Shannon Hale, Charise Meriele Harper, Jenni Holm, Akilah Hughes, Amy Ignatow, Christine Mari Inzer, Meghan McCarthy, Mitali Perkins, Leila Sales, Raina Telgemeier, Deborah Underwood, Ursula Vernon, Rita Williams-Garcia, Delaney Yeager

The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet! has received another starred review, this time from Kirkus Reviews!
“Deedy’s original tale about standing up to oppression couldn’t be more timely. Yelchin’s saturated, folksy, mixed-media paintings are the perfect partner, fleshing out the characterizations and offering visual humor. This subtle, modern multicultural tale is a must have: “Kee-kee-ree-KEE!” Indeed!”
The full review will be in the December 15 edition of Kirkus Reviews. We will post a link as soon as it is available.
PRE-ORDER through Amazon, IndieBound, or Barnes and Noble! It will be in stores January 31, 2017 in English and Spanish.
Carmen’s upcoming picture book with Scholastic Press, The Rooster Who Would Not Be Quiet!, has received a starred review from Publishers Weekly! We are so excited for the book to release in February and cannot wait for everyone to read it!
Here is a little sneak peek at the beautiful artwork by Eugene Yelchin.
